Celebrating the IDDRR Day with a Community Volunteers 1 minute video competition

Organizer(s) National Disaster Management Agency - Sierra Leone (NDMA-SL)
Date

For this year’s IDDRR day activities, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) of Sierra Leone has trained some community volunteers from funds provided by GOAL Sierra Leone and the central government. These volunteers mostly residing in disaster-prone communities were trained in several DRM modules. Key amongst the trainings were basic concepts of inequality and vulnerability, disaster risk communication, positive use of the social media platform WhatsApp to reduce sending georeferenced locations and ethical reporting of disaster incidents.

These trainings can be found on the NDMA's Facebook page.

What the agency wants to achieve as a deliverable is for people living in prone communities to own the decision-making process with regards vulnerabilities and exposures that affect them.

NDMA has requested the volunteers to do short one minutes videos on their understanding of inequality in the context of Disaster Risk Reduction. These raw videos will go into a competition for them on our Facebook page. We will share their videos and allow viewers to vote. The best 1-minute video winner will get a small prize. NDMA is disposed to share these videos with you to showcase how case Sierra Leonean communities are increasing disaster risk knowledge and building resilience.
