Resilience Starts at Home: Webinar for International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2026
Across Vietnam, intensifying climate extremes, from heatwaves and droughts to flooding and saltwater intrusion, are increasingly threatening people’s homes, health and livelihoods.
In response to the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2026, CCYPS and HADEUS Vietnam are organizing the webinar Resilience Starts at Home to raise awareness of risks within people’s own homes – where disaster risks can be concentrated, but also where resilience can begin. The webinar particularly aims to help young people, including those working in fields not directly related to climate action, such as health and architecture, recognize these risks and turn their concerns into opportunities for creative, youth-led action and initiatives.
Session theme
The webinar invites participants to rethink what “home” means: not only the physical place where we live, but also our physical and mental well-being, the places and communities to which we feel connected, and, more broadly, the Earth as our shared home. Through personal stories, interactive activities and perspectives from young professionals in related fields, the webinar aims to shift the perception of disasters from “something that does not concern me” towards recognizing how disaster and climate risks can directly affect us, our families and the places we call home. Participants will also explore practical actions they can take to protect their different “homes” and strengthen resilience in the face of increasing climate and disaster risks.
