IDDRR 2022 Commemoration in Sudan

Sudan, 13 October 2022, The UNDRR Regional Office for Arab States participated in the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Sudan organized by the National Council for Civil Defense and the Regional Science and Technology Advisory Centre, in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Governance, the Arab Science and Technology Advisory Group, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. 

The commemoration was organized at the headquarters of the Ministry of Federal Governance under the title of “Early Warning and Early Action for All” and was attended by current and former ministers, representatives of United Nations agencies, civil society organizations, the local community, university professors, and the components of the National Council for Civil Defense Council from the federal ministries. 

The commemoration included a workshop in which a number of concept papers were presented on the Sendai Framework, multi-hazard early warning, and the challenges of managing flood risk reduction.

UNDRR ROAS launched several initiatives in Sudan with the aim of enhancing Sudan’s capacity in disaster risk reduction based on systematic knowledge of disaster losses, identifying risks, and developing risk assessments, as well as using this information to enhance public investment in disaster risk reduction. UNDRR ROAS received continuous cooperation from the Ministry of Federal Governance, the National Council for Civil Defense, the Regional Science and Technology Advisory Center, the Arab Science and Technology Advisory Group, and other interested parties.
