Avoidable Deaths Network is launching Avoidable Deaths Network (ADN) Junior champion magazine on 13 October 2023 to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR).
The ADN Junior Champion Magazine is launched under the ambit of the Future Leader Scheme. Junior Champions are citizens of change. They are the future guardians of this planet. ADN strongly believe that by engaging with the future guardians, we will promote and protect the natural world that is vital for the sustainability of humans and animals on this planet.
The ADN Junior Champion Magazine is led by two junior champions, Master Arkoneil Ghosh (Founding Editor) and Miss Prarthona Datta (Deputy Editor). They will feature the voices of the children, particularly those on the frontline who are bearing the brunt of climate change and extreme weather events, every day. Each Magazine will feature a timely theme. Based on this theme subject-specific experts will be invited to guide the Editors.
The theme of the first issue is listening to the experiences of children and youths in the summer floods of 2023, which affected 15 states of India. The first issue features eight articles and Forward messages from the ADN Presidents, Editors, Science Society Researcher and Professor Rajib Shaw,
This year the theme of IDDRR is “Break the Cycle” of poverty, inequality and discrimination which are causes and consequences of growing disaster risk. The eight articles published in the Magazine spotlight the drivers of disaster risks at the local level and how they can be mitigated.
The event will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sanjay Kumar Satapathy and Assistant Professor, Dr. Madhulika Sahoo of Kalahandi University.
The launching event will be attended in person by the Founding Editor, Master Arkoneil Ghosh.
