Kenya's 11th National Symposium for International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) 2025
Busia County, Kenya
The 11th National Symposium on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) will be held in Busia County from 10th to 12th October 2025, bringing together national and county government representatives, development partners, civil society, academia, youth, and community leaders to reflect on Kenya's progress and challenges in building resilience to disasters.
Aligned with the global theme for the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025-"Fund Resilience, Not Disasters"-the symposium will focus on strengthening disaster risk financing, governance, and inclusive partnerships to accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework in Kenya.
Over three days, participants will engage in high-level panels, technical presentations, interactive dialogues, and field visits. Discussions will explore the rising cost of disasters, the value of investing in resilience, and innovative financing models that can support sustainable development and climate adaptation. Special attention will be given to the role of counties, communities, youth, and marginalized groups in shaping Kenya's resilience agenda.
The symposium will also showcase local innovations, early warning systems, and community-led initiatives, while providing a platform for stakeholders to commit to actionable steps that close financing gaps and strengthen risk-informed development.
This national event is a critical moment to reaffirm Kenya's commitment to disaster risk reduction and to mobilize collective action toward a safer, more resilient future for all.
