Ripples International is not for profit Christian organization founded in 2002 in Meru Kenya to protect and promote the rights of children.
To mark IDDRR, we have teamed up with enthusiastic rider, Mr. Sammy, who is riding from South Africa to Meru, Kenya; this is an advocacy campaign dubbed 'Riding for Change.' Riding for change is a call for action for people to take action to save our planet.
In this, for every mile that Sammy will be riding Ripples International in partnership with 20 local schools will be planting 100 trees. The ride that takes 10 days will eventually result in Ripples International planting 20,000 trees.
Ripples International will hold 2events; one at the National Theatre in Nairobi which will engage the cabinet secretary for environment and forestry. The second event will be held in Meru, Karumo Technical Institute's graduation square, to raise awareness for climate change.
Ripples International acknowledges the fact that climate change significantly and disproportionately affects women, girls and children.
In the last 5 years, within our area of operation, we have witnessed unprecedented effects of drought with increased school dropout, child labour, child marriages and harmful cultural practices such as FGM.
Alongside this, Ripples International is heeding the government's clarion to ensure 30pc climate cover by 2030. Kenyan government a great supporter of UNCCC and Kyoto Protocol as well as Sendai Framework has an ambitious plan to plant 15 billion trees in 11.8 million ha by 2030.
