As a long-term member of Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR),  as in past years CIEDM has responded to the GNDR call for supporting the global awareness campaign of the IDDRR 2025 taken place on October 13. While focusing on IDDRR, CIEDM grassroots’ local event taken place on October 12-18 at Arcadia Ecohome also serves to support part in the following four regional, national and global campaigns for being disaster-ready:

  • Fire Prevention Week on October 6-12;
  • Both the Great ShakeOut and Imagine a Day Without Water on October 16; and
  • California Flood Preparedness Week on October 18-25.

Participated by CIEDM personnel our actions include:

  • Event/action registration with GNDR and the Great ShakeOut;
  • A meetup on event programming and work assignments;
  • A social media campaign for raising public awareness and preparedness for various types of disasters;
  • An earthquake drill in the morning of October 16;
  • Yard works to enhance the Ecohome’s firescaping and stormwater storaging and sinking capacities;
  • Learning sessions by reading and viewing relevant materials and attending webinars, including watching the film titled “The Lost Bus”, an informative, educational yet moving story in the 2018 Camp Fire, one of the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in California history; and
  • Offering and sharing SME comments online to relevant postings as part of our advocacy efforts.
